Abstract

The problem of energy crisis and high dependence on fossil fuels encourage the development of alternative energy sources that are environmentally friendly and sustainable. This study aims to design and build a prototype of the Pilates Reformer fitness equipment that can be modified to produce alternative electrical energy. The mechanical energy generated by the user's physical activity is converted into electrical energy using a BLDC type transmission and alternator system. The design process involves dimensional analysis, structural strength calculations, transmission systems, and integration of electronic components such as rectifiers, inverters, and power storage batteries. The test results show that this device is capable of producing a voltage of 13.02 V in a duration of use for 1 minute, and is still able to maintain an electric current of 0.85 V after being loaded with a fan. This study shows that the Pilates Reformer fitness equipment can be used as a small-scale alternative power generator, and has the potential to be applied in fitness centers as an energy efficiency solution.
