Abstract

TS Field is one of the mature oil fields that still holds significant potential for oil recovery, with remaining reserves reaching 66.49% of the Original Oil in Place (OOIP). This study aims to analyze and compare the effectiveness of two chemical injection methods, Softened Water and Hybrid-Alkali, in the AlkalineSurfactant-Polymer (ASP) injection process using a three-dimensional numerical simulation conducted with CMG STARS software. The Softened Water method relies on injection water treated to remove divalent ions (Ca²⁺ and Mg²⁺) to prevent polymer degradation and surfactant precipitation. In contrast, the Hybrid-Alkali method utilizes a combination of alkalis (Na₂CO₃ and Na₃PO₄), enabling the formation of in-situ surfactants and offering greater tolerance to high salinity conditions. Simulation results indicate that the Hybrid-Alkali method consistently yields higher Recovery Factors (RF) and oil production volumes compared to the Softened Water method across all concentration variations. The maximum RF achieved by Hybrid-Alkali reached 14.05%, whereas Softened Water only achieved 9.94%. Therefore, the Hybrid-Alkali method is proven to be more effective and is recommended for implementation in the TS Field to optimize oil recovery under an Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) ASP scenario.
