Abstract

Sandstone reservoirs are prone to productivity decline due to scale deposition in the near-wellbore zone. This issue restricts fluid flow and reduces oil production rates. This study aims to analyze production flow rates using Decline Curve Analysis (DCA) and evaluate the effectiveness of matrix acidizing design in addressing scale-related formation damage. Three DCA models—exponential, hyperbolic, and harmonic—were applied to assess production trends before and after stimulation. The hyperbolic model was found to be the most representative in predicting well life and cumulative production. The matrix acidizing design included calculations of fracture pressure, injection rate, and acid volume and duration. The required acid volume was calculated at 114.3 bbl with an optimal injection rate of 3.71 bpm. Post-stimulation results showed an increase in the productivity index from 0.7 to 2.0 STB/d/psi and a decrease in skin factor from +40 to –1.5. These results confirm that matrix acidizing is effective in dissolving scale and improving production performance in sandstone wells.
