Abstract
During drilling operations, the presence of drilling mud is one of the most important things. If the rheology and filtration of drilling mud are not maintained, it can cause problems such as kicks or filtration loss. Therefore, rheology and filtration must be maintained, one of which is by adding materials such as polymers or other additives. Additives Graphene Oxide Nanosheet (GONs), Xanthan Gum (XG), and Polyanionic Cellulose Low Viscosity (PAC-LV) in this study was analyzed for effect on the rheology and filtration of drilling mud. The Hummers method was used to synthesize GONs and the drilling mud tested was divided into 4 types of samples. Type 1 is standard mud, Type 2 added one additive, Type 3 added two additives, and Type 4 added three additives with GONs concentrations of 0.1 wt%; 0.15 wt%; and 0.2 wt%. In Type 2, the addition of GONs did not have a good enough impact, this is related to the imperfect characterization of GONs. XG can increasing plastic viscosity 14cp, yield point 31 lb/100ft2, and gel strength 0.52 lb/100ft2 suit to API standards. While PAC-LV affect for reducing the filtrate volume from 15 ml to 12.4 ml and the mud cake reduced to 1.5 mm. Sample Type 3, GONs influenced when added with other additives so that the combination of GONs + XG fit the API standards for rheology. Meanwhile, in filtration loss testing, the combination of each sample can reduce the filtrate volume by up to 12 ml and the mud cake is reduced compared to standard mud without additives. In Type 4, with the addition of GONs, rheology increases and there is a reduction in the filtrate and mud cake volume. However, at a GONs concentration of 0.2 wt%, the mud cake is thicker than the others, about 1.95 mm. This is related to the variation in the structure of the additives used. For rheology modelling, the Bingham plastic model in this study was used because of its simple calculations. Although linear regression shows that this model is less suitable for describing the behavior of existing drilling mud samples.
