Abstract
Corrosion in flowline pipes of oil and gas wells poses a serious problem that can disrupt production processes. The use of corrosion inhibitors based on synthetic chemicals often causes detrimental environmental impacts. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of Binjai rambutan peel extract as a natural corrosion inhibitor at various pH levels, namely pH 9, 10, 11, and 12, using the weight gain method over 168 hours at room temperature. The results show that the Binjai rambutan peel extract can reduce the corrosion rate across all tested pH variations, with the highest inhibition efficiency of 19.03% at pH 9 and the lowest efficiency of 15.45% at pH 12. The inhibitor’s effectiveness decreases as the pH increases due to the degradation of tannin compounds and the reduced adsorption ability on the metal surface. This study demonstrates the potential of Binjai rambutan peel extract as an environmentally friendly and economical organic corrosion inhibitor for oil and gas industry applications.
