Abstract

Emulsion problems during the production process greatly affect the quality of petroleum. So to get petroleum that is relwased from the emulsion, a demulsification process needs to be carried out, one method with demulsifier injection. This study was conducted with the aim of seeing the performance of organic demulsifiersfrom soybean oil base materials in separating emulsions against synthetic demulsifiers as acomparison, with a temperature 60ºC and a concentration of 1 ml, 3 m l, and 5 ml during an observation time of 120 minutes. Organic demulsifiers are formulated using the saponification method, which is to react unsaturated fatty acids with KOH to form organic demulsifiers. Through the results obtained, this study shows that the best separation occurs in organic demulsifiers with a concentration of 5 ml of 1000 ppm NaCl at a temperature of 60ºC which can separate water in oil emulsions perfectly with a separation value of 50 ml during a separation time of 120 minutes.
