Abstract

In building construction projects, inefficiencies in material usage are frequently encountered, often resulting in either surplus or shortage of materials. Excessive use and over-ordering of materials are key issues in this study, as observed in the construction project of the Integrated Library Building at STAIN Bengkalis. This research employs a quantitative approach by comparing material volumes based on the Budget Plan (RAB) and actual usage data (Purchase Orders), as well as identifying the dominant waste-contributing materials using the Pareto method. The results show that the total cost of material waste in structural work reached IDR 127,515,565. Based on Pareto analysis, the material with the highest waste contribution was K250 concrete at 23.15%, while the lowest was 12 mm plywood at 2.90%. The study concludes that material usage in the project remains inefficient and requires improved planning and supervision. Effective material management, worker training, and reuse of leftover materials are necessary to reduce waste in future construction projects.
