Abstract

This study aims to improve student academic achievement in the subject of Islamic Religious Education through the implementation of the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) model in Grade VII at State Junior High School 17 Pekanbaru. The CTL model was chosen for its approach of connecting instructional content to real-life contexts, thereby expected to enhance students’ motivation and comprehension. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) methodology conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The subjects were 21 Grade VII students of the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected through tests, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using both quantitative and qualitative techniques. The findings indicate that the application of the CTL model significantly improved student learning achievement. In the first cycle, the classical mastery reached 71.4%, which increased to 90.5% in the second cycle. Furthermore, students' engagement in the learning process also improved, as reflected in their active participation in discussions and their ability to relate learning materials to daily life experiences. The CTL model proved effective in enhancing the learning outcomes in Islamic Religious Education for Grade VII students at State Junior High School 17 Pekanbaru
