Abstract

This study aimed to examine how the management of the Islamic boarding school fostered students‟ entrepreneurial spirit (santripreneur) at Aufia Global Islamic Boarding School (Aufia GIBS) Riau. The main issues addressed were how management functions were implemented in supporting the students‟ entrepreneurship programs and what supporting and inhibiting factors the boarding school faced in the process. The study employed a qualitative approach with a field research design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The informants consisted of the boarding school leader, the head of the Islamic senior high school, supervisors, and students. Data analysis referred to the Miles and Huberman model, which included data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings showed that the management of the boarding school in fostering students‟ entrepreneurial spirit was carried out through the application of management functions (planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling). Entrepreneurship programs such as agriculture, animal husbandry, minimarket management, and production training were implemented in a structured and practical manner. The supporting factors included a strong vision and mission of the boarding school, competent human resources, as well as support from facilities and external partners. The inhibiting factors included limited time allocation for activities, restricted operational funds, and the lack of business experience among some teachers. The study concluded that effective management played a crucial role in the success of the boarding school in producing independent students with an entrepreneurial spirit. The boarding school needed to continue developing the students‟ entrepreneurial curriculum to prepare them as business pioneers and agents of community empowerment.
