Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of rhinoceros beetle control using ferotraps and Senna multijuga plants, as well as to determine the influence of plant location and age on the control of rhinoceros beetles in oil palm plantations. The research was carried out in the plantation area of the Pangowan Sejahtera Mandiri Oil Palm Farmers Group, located in Ganting Damai Village, Salo District, Kampar Regency. The study was conducted over a period of two years, from August 2022 to August 2024. This research employed a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with three factors. The first factor was the trap position (P). The second factor was the type of trap/attractant (A), consisting of Senna multijuga plants and ferotraps (synthetic pheromones). The third factor was the age of the trap/attractant (T). These three factors resulted in 8 treatment combinations and 1 control, each replicated 3 times, totaling 27 experimental units. The results showed that treatment P1A2T2 (Senna multijuga planted at the edge of the block, 24 months old) resulted in the highest number of rhinoceros beetle deaths, totaling 3,147.67 insects, and was significantly different from all other treatments. Based on the findings, rhinoceros beetle control in oil palm plantations can be effectively achieved by planting Senna multijuga along the edge of plantation blocks (20 meters from the roadside). Senna multijuga plants exhibit optimal attractiveness to rhinoceros beetles at 24 months of age (2 years). One limitation of using ferotraps is that they only attract male beetles and require conventional follow-up action to kill the beetles after they are trapped.
