Abstract
Aluminum 7075 is an aluminum alloy that is widely used in the aerospace, defense, and applications that require high strength and durability. This aluminum is increased in strength by the aging process. This study aims to obtain the effect of aging on the mechanical properties and microstructure of aluminum 7075. In this study, aging was carried out with temperature variations ranging from 120⁰C, 140 ⁰C, 160⁰C, and 180⁰C with a holding time of 1 hour. Before the aging process, the material was first given a Solution treatment at a temperature of 450⁰C with a holding time of 1 hour. The results showed that the aging material had lower tensile strength and yield strength than the initial material. The strength of the aging material at a temperature of 140⁰C was 409.5 MPa and the yield strength was 257.15 MPa. This value is the highest compared to the aging material at temperatures of 120⁰C, 160⁰C, and 180⁰C. On the other hand, the elongation value of the aging material increases to 7-10% from 2.4% elongation of the initial material. Aging causes grain size and the presence of precipitates to change.
