Abstract
he decline in oil well production rates is often caused by an increase in water production, or high water cut, which may result from wellbore mechanical issues or reservoir conditions. One of the main causes of high water cut is improper perforation interval selection, allowing water zones to enter the well, along with formation damage, insufficient reservoir pressure, and aging production facilities. To address these challenges, optimization methods such as perforation, reperforation, and water shut-off (WSO) techniques can be applied. This study was conducted on Well C-3 in Field S, within the 1747–1754 ft interval, which has shown a water cut of 90% since the beginning of production. A workover operation using squeeze cementing was conducted across this interval. Subsequent log evaluation revealed a hydrocarbon-prospective zone, characterized by high resistivity values, crossover between neutron and density logs, and sandstone lithology with favorable porosity and water saturation—indicating a productive zone. The 1747–1750 ft interval was selected as the target for reperforation. A simulation was performed using PIPESIM software with perforation density variations of 3, 4, and 5 shots per foot (spf). Results indicated that the 5 spf design produced the lowest skin factor value of -0.5129, suggesting improved fluid flow efficiency. Additionally, under 20% water cut conditions, the production rate increased from 422.3317 STB/d (3 spf) to 422.4965 STB/d (4 spf), and peaked at 422.6064 STB/d with 5 spf. These findings suggest that the 5 spf perforation design is the most optimal choice for enhancing oil production efficiency in Well C-3.
