Abstract
Hydraulic fracturing is a reservoir stimulation method used to enhance oil and gas production by creating fractures in rock formations. Proppants function to keep these fractures open, allowing hydrocarbons to flow optimally. This study aims to analyze the physical and chemical characteristics of quartz sand from Menaming, Rokan Hulu Regency, both as a natural Proppant and after being coated with epoxy resin in three variations (5 ml, 7.5 ml, and 10 ml). The testing was conducted based on API RP 19C standards, including roundness, sphericity, bulk density, crush resistance, turbidity, and acid solubility. The results showed that resin coating significantly improved the morphology and durability of the Proppant. Roundness increased from 0.57 (natural sand) to 0.67 (10 ml resin), and sphericity from 0.78 to 0.84. In addition, the values of bulk density, acid solubility, and turbidity for the resin-coated samples met the API standard requirements. Based on these findings, quartz sand from Menaming coated with epoxy resin demonstrates strong potential as an alternative Proppant for hydraulic fracturing applications in the oil and gas industry.
