Abstract

Online gambling is categorized as a cyber crime because in committing the crime, online gambling uses computers and the internet as a medium to commit the crime of gambling. In the Kuansing area, there are still many cases of online gambling that are increasingly rampant. As we know, gambling activities are strictly prohibited, but there are still many people who carry out online gambling activities. Online gambling itself is regulated in a more specific Law, namely Law Number 19 of 2016, an amendment to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions. In relation to this, the author conducted a study with the formulation of the problem related to what are the factors causing online gambling crimes in the jurisdiction of the Kuansing Police and how to overcome online gambling crimes in the jurisdiction of the Kuansing Police. The method used is empirical law which is carried out by means of a survey, namely by examining the law in reality or based on facts obtained objectively in the field, both in the form of data, information, and opinions based on legal identification and legal effectiveness, which are obtained through interviews with competent Law Enforcement Officers and perpetrators related to the problems raised in the study. While the nature of this research is descriptive analytical, namely the author tries to provide a complete and clear picture related to overcoming online gambling crimes in the jurisdiction of the Kuansing Police. The results of this study are the factors causing online gambling crimes in the jurisdiction of the Kuansing Police are internal and external factors. Internal factors themselves are factors that exist within oneself, in the form of the intention to commit online gambling crimes, lack of understanding of religion and lack of awareness of the law. And external factors are factors from the environment, as well as economic factors that cause someone to gamble online. The prevention efforts made by the Police in overcoming online gambling in the jurisdiction of the Kuansing Police are through preventive and repressive efforts.
