Abstract

This study aims to analyze legal protection for consumers in used car sales transactions at the Gibra Auto Mobil Showroom in Duri, Mandau District, Bengkalis Regency. The background of this study is based on a number of problems that often occur in used car sales transactions, including dishonesty of business actors in providing information about the condition of the vehicle, such as damage history, odometer manipulation, and the legal status of the vehicle. In addition, the lack of consumer understanding of their rights as consumers causes them not to demand these rights to the maximum, which has an impact on inequality in the legal relationship between consumers and business actors. The results of interviews with consumers at the Gibra Auto Mobil showroom showed variations in consumer experiences. Some consumers were satisfied because they were given the opportunity to check the vehicle and get an explanation about the condition of the car. However, some others felt that their rights had not been fully fulfilled, especially regarding technical information about the vehicle and the unavailability of a written agreement or warranty. Inconsistency of information about the condition of the car and lack of transparency are sources of consumer complaints. Based on these findings, this study emphasizes the importance of providing clear information, having a written agreement, and increasing consumer awareness of their rights in used car sales transactions.
