Abstract

This study aims to determine how students do self-disclosure on their second account on Instagram. Self-disclosure is communicating information about ourselves to others. In the study of interpersonal communication, self-disclosure is one of the most important approaches. Self disclosure conducted in this study through the second Instagram account of the informant. In this study, the researcher used a qualitative approach, to collect data through interviews and observations. The results of the study obtained that the intellectual communication conducted by students in Pekanbaru City in expressing themselves (self disclosure) on the second Instagram account aims to express themselves in order to build selfconfidence. The things they post are their daily activities, sharing random videos, Kpop videos, and some even use it to stalk business competitors. The reason they prefer to use a second account for self-disclosure is so that their friends or distant family do not know their weak side, or so that people who are not too close to them do not know what they really like.
