Abstract

Migrant students are adolescents who move away from their parents, family, and hometown to seek knowledge elsewhere. Therefore, independence as a migrant is essential for navigating life in a foreign region. Each student's level of independence varies; some students have high, medium, and low levels of independence. Therefore, the researcher set the following research objective: to determine the level of independence among migrant students at the Faculty of Psychology, Riau Islamic University. This research used a quantitative method with a descriptive approach. The study population consisted of all migrant students at the Faculty of Psychology, Riau Islamic University, with a sample size of 167 students determined using a purposive sampling technique. Data collection was conducted by distributing prepared questionnaires. Based on the description of the independence of migrant students at the Faculty of Psychology, Riau Islamic University, the researcher concluded that migrant students at the Faculty of Psychology, Riau Islamic University, have a moderate level of independence. There was no significant difference in the level of independence of migrant students at the Faculty of Psychology, Riau Islamic University, between males and females. Students have developed emotional, behavioral, and value independence in navigating life abroad.
