Abstract

This study aims to improve underhand passing skills in volleyball for Grade VII A students at SMPN 2 Sentajo Raya during the 2024 academic year through a modified plastic ball approach. The research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 27 students, consisting of 12 male and 15 female students. Data were collected through observation and skill tests, then analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods. The results showed an improvement in underhand passing skills after implementing the learning approach using a modified plastic ball. In the first cycle, the average student score was 62.96, with a learning mastery rate of 33.33%, indicating that most students still faced difficulties in mastering the basic technique. After improvements were made in the second cycle, the average score increased to 72.3, and the learning mastery rate rose to 77.78%. This outcome suggests that using a plastic ball as a modified learning medium can enhance students' understanding and performance in underhand passing. Therefore, this learning approach proves effective in improving basic volleyball skills among students. The study also recommends that physical education teachers consider utilizing modified learning media, such as plastic balls, to enhance the effectiveness of sports instruction in schools.
