Abstract
This study aims to analyze the speaking skills of grade XII students of SMA Negeri 5 Perawang. The background of this study is based on the importance of speaking skills in English as the main indicator of language mastery and communication success, but in reality many students still have difficulty speaking fluently and confidently in real situations. This study uses a qualitative approach with 37 students of grade XII.3 as research subjects. Data were collected through various speaking tasks covering aspects of fluency, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and comprehension. The results of the study indicate that students still face major challenges in aspects of fluency, pronunciation, and lack of confidence when speaking. Factors that influence include nervousness, fear of making mistakes, and limited vocabulary. In addition, the lack of interesting and interactive speaking activities in the classroom is also an obstacle in developing students' speaking skills. This study recommends that teachers provide more variations in speaking activities such as role play, group discussions, storytelling, and interviews to improve students' courage, fluency, and overall communication skills. Thus, it is hoped that students can be better prepared to face the demands of communication in everyday life and in the future.
