Abstract

The research entitled Soaking Time Test and Colchicine Concentration on Growth and Yield of Shallots (Allium ascalonicum L.), was carried out at the Experimental Garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Riau Islamic University, Pekanbaru City, from January to March 2023. This study aims to determine Effect of interaction and main test of soaking time and concentration of colchicine on the growth and yield of shallots. This study used a completely randomized factorial design which consisted of two factors. The first factor is the immersion time test which consists of 4 levels, namely 3; 6; 9 and 12 hours of immersion and the second factor is the concentration of Colchicine which consists of 4 levels, namely 0; 0.05; 0.10 and 0.15%. Parameters observed were the age at which shoots appeared, plant height, number of leaves, harvest age, number of tillers, tuber diameter, number of tubers per clump, fresh weight of tubers per clump, dry weight of tubers per clump and tuber weight per tuber. The data were analyzed statistically and continued with the BNJ test at the 5% level. The results showed that the interaction effect of the soaking time test and the concentration of colchicine was significant on the age parameters of shoot emergence, plant height, number of leaves, number of tillers, tuber diameter, number of tubers per hill, fresh weight of tubers per hill and dry weight of tubers per hill. The best treatment was 9 hours of immersion and 0.15% colchicine concentration. The main effect of colchicine immersion time test is significant on all observation parameters. The best treatment was 9 and 12 hours of immersion. The main effect of colchicine concentration was significant on all observed parameters with the best treatment at a concentration of 0.15%.
