Abstract
This research aims to determine public perceptions regarding the existence of parking attendants in Marpoyan Damai District, Pekanbaru City. The theory used is interpersonal communication theory according to Lisa and Nanik (2019). This research uses a qualitative approach. In this study there were 5 subjects. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation. The results of the research show that the public's perception of the existence of parking attendants in Marpoyan Damai District, Pekanbaru City is measured through 3 indicators, namely: (1) Response, the aspect of response to the presence of parking attendants in Marpoyan Damai District is that parking attendants come suddenly asking for money when consumers are about to leave who were previously not visible to parking attendants, parking attendants ask for rates that are not appropriate to their location, for example small stalls are also asked for Rp. 2,000. Apart from that, there are parking attendants who are indifferent when consumers have difficulties and remove their vehicles. (2) Knowledge, the aspect of knowledge regarding the existence of parking attendants in Marpoyan Damai District shows that the public knows that parking attendants are very necessary, such as controlling parking in public places, helping the public in parking two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles. Apart from that, the public knows that parking attendants who are not illegal are officially authorized by the government to wear yellow vests, use whistles and charge rates determined in accordance with regulations. (3) Assessment, the assessment aspect of the existence of parking attendants in Marpoyan Damai District shows that parking attendants have both positive and negatif impacts. The positive impact felt by the community is that parking attendants can help people park or remove their vehicles, arrange the parking area neatly, and help people with vehicle safety. Meanwhile, the negatif impacts are parking attendants who suddenly come when consumers are leaving, parking attendants who don't want to help, only ask for money, lack of responsibility.
