Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the meaning of affection between children and parents depicted in the short film “Pulang”. This research uses qualitative methods and uses Roland Barthes' theory of semiotic analysis, which identifies signs through three levels of meaning, namely denotation, connotation, and myth. For data collection, the method used in this research is semiotic analysis technique. As the initial stage of data collection, a short film produced by KAI and Visualkan Kreasi Indonesia, directed by Galih Firdaus and produced by Yunda Nugraha, was watched carefully. Subsequently, the data was organized according to the problem formulation that had been set to complete the documentation process. In addition to that, interviews were conducted with expert sources to obtain additional information, which was then discussed descriptively. This research found that there are many signs that represent affection in family relationships, as shown in the short film “Pulang”. The results show that there are many signs that represent affection in family relationships, as well as the value that home should always be a place to return to, not just physically.
