Abstract
SLB teachers face complex challenges in their profession, including emotional demands, heavy workloads, and a lack of financial recognition. Despite these difficulties, the teachers demonstrate strong commitment and dedication in educating children with special needs (ABK). This study aims to explore the description of happiness experienced by teachers at Pelita Nusa Special Needs School (SLB) in Pekanbaru. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing semi-structured interviews and participant observations involving three selected teachers through purposive sampling. Then it was analyzed using the Creswell model. The credibility of the data was tested using Triangulation and Member Check. The findings reveal that the happiness of SLB teachers at Pelita Nusa is manifested through three main aspects: pleasure, engagement, and meaning. Pleasure is reflected in personal satisfaction when teaching and building positive interactions with students. Engagement appears in the strong emotional bonds between teachers and ABK, which serve as a fundamental element in the teaching and learning process. Meanwhile, meaning is derived from the belief that teaching is a calling with a direct impact on students’ lives. The study concludes that SLB teachers’ happiness primarily stems from intrinsic values and emotional relationships rather than material factors. Therefore, it is crucial for schools and the government to provide psychosocial and professional support to maintain the well-being of SLB teachers.
