Abstract

Air pollution in urban areas such as Pekanbaru is increasing due to industrial and transportation activities. Green Open Space (RTH) as the lungs of the city requires an accurate and real-time air quality monitoring system to detect the presence of harmful pollutants. This research aims to design and build an Internet of Things (IoT)-based air quality monitoring system capable of detecting PM2.5, CO₂, smoke, and temperature parameters in real-time in Pekanbaru's RTH area. This system uses an ESP32 microcontroller integrated with Dust (PM2.5), MQ-135 (CO₂), MQ-2 (smoke), and DHT22 (temperature) sensors. Data from the sensors is sent to the server, displayed through the monitoring website, and accompanied by automatic notifications via Telegram if the pollutant value exceeds the threshold. System testing is carried out thoroughly using the black box method and accuracy tests against conventional tools. The results show that the system is able to display data in real-time with a high level of accuracy (average error <2%). In addition, the system can run stably without interruption within the test period and provide alerts in a timely manner. In conclusion, this system successfully meets the needs of air quality monitoring in green spaces in an adaptive and responsive manner, and can be used as an initial solution for the application of IoT-based environmental technology.
