Abstract

Violence against children is a violation of human rights that threatens children's right to life, security, and dignity. In this case, children as victims need to receive adequate legal protection so that the legal process can proceed properly and their rights are always protected. Legal protection for children is regulated in Law No. 35 of 2014 concerning Child Protection, through preventive measures in the form of socialization and education, as well as repressive measures in the form of law enforcement, assistance, and recovery. The main issues discussed in this study are how to protect children who are victims of violent crimes in Bumbung Village, Bathin Solapan Subdistrict, Bengkalis Regency, and what factors hinder efforts to protect children who are victims of violent crimes in Bumbung Village, Bathin Solapan Subdistrict, Bengkalis Regency. This study aims to determine the form of legal protection provided to children who are victims of violent crimes in Bumbung Village, Bathin Solapan Subdistrict, Bengkalis Regency, as well as to identify the obstacles faced in its implementation. This study uses an empirical legal method with a qualitative approach, involving interviews with the Mandau Police Station, as well as the collection of secondary data from legal documents and related police reports. The results of the study indicate that legal protection in this region is still suboptimal due to constraints such as the limited number of investigators in the PPA Unit, insufficient evidence, inadequate budget and resources, low public awareness, economic difficulties faced by victims' families, and insufficient public outreach. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance the capacity of law enforcement officials, provide supporting facilities, conduct legal education for the public, and offer psychological and economic support to victims to ensure that child protection measures are implemented more effectively and in accordance with humanitarian principles.
