Abstract

The improvement of the Ketam Putih – Sekodi rigid road in this study revealed that the concrete work exhibited inconsistencies, with a decline in quality capacity occurring prematurely, long before the planned lifespan was reached. The factors contributing to this include the concrete construction process, deviations in concrete maintenance/curing, and numerous other factors that trigger damage. The objective of this study is to identify the issues occurring in the rigid concrete pavement on the Ketam Putih – Sekodi road section and analyze the mechanisms causing cracks. The research method is analysis descriptive with a case study approach on concrete road pavement. Primary data was collected through direct observation, measurements, and visual documentation. A literature review was then conducted on damage occurring during the construction of rigid roads, particularly cracks in rigid concrete pavements. Shrinkage predictions were calculated using four standard methods: ACI Committee 209, ACI 209.2R-08, CEB-FIB MC90, and EN 1992-1-1-2004. The shrinkage values obtained from each method, respectively, are 0.01030 mm; 0.00657 mm; 0.000098 mm; and 0.00724 mm. The calculated results were compared with the actual field shrinkage of 2.1 mm. This requires improvements to curing procedures, cutting scheduling, dowel alignment, and crack inducer installation according to specifications. Implementation of real-time monitoring of temperature and humidity is recommended to prevent premature damage to concrete pavements.
