Abstract

This study was motivated by students’ low outcomes in learning Islamic Studies in grade X at SMA Babussalam Pekanbaru. Although teachers had applied lecture and inductive methods, however approximately 65% of students still scored below the Minimum Competency Criteria (KKM). This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Concept Mapping strategy on students' cognitive learning outcomes. This was a quantitative study with a correlational approach. The population of the study consisted of all students in grade X with a total of 60 students. Since the number was less than 100, a saturated sampling technique was used. The data collection techniques of the study were questionnaires and documentation, then analyzed by using validity, reliability, normality, and simple linear regression tests. The results of the study showed that the Concept Mapping strategy had a significant and positive effect in improving students’ learning outcomes. In conclusion, implementing the Concept Mapping strategy could be an effective alternative learning strategy for improving students’ outcomes in learning Islamic Studies, particularly in the cognitive aspect.
