Abstract

New crimes caused by the development of this technology, one of which is online gambling. With the development of this information technology, online gambling does not require a place or arena to gamble, unlike conventional gambling which requires a place to gather and gamble. In this online gambling, players only need to visit a gambling place on an online gambling site that can be easily found on the internet and anyone can access it easily. The main formulation in this study is how the implementation of law enforcement against perpetrators of online gambling crimes at the Riau Police Criminal Investigation Directorate and what are the obstacles in the implementation of law enforcement against perpetrators of online gambling crimes at the Riau Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, Riau Police. The research method used is Observational Research by means of a survey, namely interviews as a data collection tool. The nature of the research, this research is descriptive analytical, namely providing a clear and detailed description of an incident that occurred regarding law enforcement against perpetrators of online gambling crimes at the Riau Police Criminal Investigation Directorate. The results of the research and discussion can be concluded that the Riau Police Criminal Investigation Directorate has developed a special mechanism in handling online gambling cases that are increasingly rampant in its jurisdiction. The law enforcement process begins with cyber patrol activities and active monitoring of digital platforms that are often used for gambling activities. A special team consisting of investigators trained in information technology and digital forensics was formed to handle these cases intensively. In the investigation stage, investigators conduct an in-depth study of digital evidence by utilizing forensic tools to uncover the perpetrator's digital footprint. The data collected includes financial transaction history, electronic communication logs, and activity records on online gambling platforms, and Law enforcement against online gambling still faces various significant obstacles, ranging from technical to legal aspects. On the other hand, social factors such as public perception that still considers gambling as commonplace and minimal reports from victims weaken enforcement efforts.
