Abstract
The West Duri Ring Road, which crosses Talang Forest and Balairaja Wildlife Sanctuary, was constructed to reduce traffic congestion, improve accessibility, and enhance safety. The implementation of eco-road geometric design is crucial for ensuring safe traffic flow while maintaining ecological connectivity for wildlife. This study aims to examine how eco-road concepts can be applied in compliance with intercity road geometric standards and to analyze geometric parameters that support ecological preservation and connectivity. A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods was employed, using primary and secondary data compared with Class II intercity road geometric standards (Bina Marga No. 20/SE/Db/2021) and eco friendly road guidelines (Forest Management Road Technical Guidelines 2018; Ministry of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 23/2019). Results indicate that the West Duri Ring Road meets the technical requirements of Class II intercity roads and the geometric criteria for eco-roads. Although geometric elements such as lane width, number of lanes, curve types and radii, superelevation, and longitudinal slopes conform to standards, aspects of sustainability and ecological connectivity particularly environmental facilities and drainage management require further enhancement. Improvements in road design are recommended to better preserve the protected forest ecosystem.
