Abstract
Software Defined Network (SDN) has become a new paradigm in computer network management that provides flexibility and efficiency in network control. SDN separates the control plane from the data plane in the network, enabling more dynamic and adaptive network management. The purpose of this research is to test and analyze the performance of SDN using OpenFlow in an academic environment. The methodology used involves collecting data on the existing network topology and measuring network performance using relevant parameters such as delay, throughput, and jitter. The research results show that the implementation of SDN using OpenFlow in the network of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Islam Riau yields positive results in enhancing network flexibility and efficiency. The use of SDN allows network administrators to easily control and configure network traffic flows, optimize resource utilization, and facilitate more effective network management. However, this research also identifies several challenges that need to be considered in SDN implementation, such as compatibility with existing hardware, security vulnerabilities, and network stability. Therefore, it is recommended that the implementation of SDN in academic networks be done carefully, taking these aspects into consideration. In conclusion, this research demonstrates that the use of SDN with the OpenFlow protocol can enhance network performance in the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences at Universitas Islam Riau. SDN implementation provides higher flexibility in network configuration and enables more efficient administration. However, the existing challenges need to be carefully addressed to ensure a successful and secure SDN implementation.
