Abstract

This study aims to analyze the comparison between two virtual private network (VPN) protocols, namely Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) and OpenVPN, in the context of data sharing at SMK Bina Profesi Pekanbaru. PPTP and OpenVPN are two popular solutions for securing communications and data access on insecure networks, such as the internet. The results of the study show that both protocols have their own strengths and weaknesses. PPTP has an advantage in terms of speed and compatibility with various devices. However, PPTP is also considered less secure than OpenVPN due to its vulnerability to attacks and weaker encryption methods. Based on these findings, it was concluded that the selection of a VPN protocol should be based on the needs and priorities of security and convenience. If speed and compatibility are the main factors, PPTP can be a good choice. However, if security is a top priority.
