Abstract
Mesah Village is an area dominated by oil palm plantation land. Oil palm plantations in Mesah Village can cause various kinds of impacts on thecommunity around the village, therefore this study was conducted to findout what are the impacts caused by oil palm plantations on the MesahVillage community and also how to overcome these impacts. Data collection in this study was carried out by means of openinterviews, while the selected speakers were professional judges who wereparties directly related to oil palm plantation activities. The aspects to bediscussed related to the impact of oil palm plantations are adopted from theconcept of sustainable development which consists of 3 aspects, namelyeconomic, social and environmental aspects. After identifying the impactsof oil palm plantations on communities, these data are analyzed with SWOTanalysis to obtain appropriate strategies to minimize existing problems andoptimize the potentials of oil palm plantations. The result obtained from the SWOT analysis is that the internal andexternal matrices refer to quadrant V which shows that the most suitablestrategy is to hold and maintain existing conditions. The focus of thestrategy is strengthening the capacity of farmers, waste management, andresolving land conflicts to achieve community welfare and environmentalsustainability.
