Abstract

This study aims to find out how the Toba Batak tribe’s resecption of family communication in the movie Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap and how the family’s communication is maintaining integrity. This movie tells about Batak family life and its relationship in the context of local culture. This research uses descriptive qualitative reseacrh methods, with data collection techniques through structured interviews, documentation and literature studies. The research data was analyzed by categorization and then conclusions were found from the data. The results of the reseacrh showed that the audience of the Toba Batak tribe accepted all the messages conveyed by the film related to family communication that occurs in maintaining wholeness or in the reseception called dominant position. Analysis of the Toba Batak tribe’s reception of family communication in Ngeri-Ngeri Sedap movie states the values of local wisdom in the Toba Batak tribe such as resepct for parents, the role of dalihan na tolu and dialogue that occurs in the Toba Batak family are effective in maintaning family integrity. This analysis is based on the experience and background of the informants.
