Abstract

As the agricultural sector develops, extension services are constantly evolving as non-formal education plays a vital role in farmers' well-being. In Siak Sri Indrapura Regency, extension communication has shifted from traditional methods to digital technologies such as mobile applications and social media for effectiveness. This region, with the largest palm oil potential and sufficient rice production, is actively implementing productivity improvement programs through improved techniques and organic fertilizers. This study aims to describe and analyze changes in agricultural extension communication in the 5.0 era in Siak Sri Indrapura. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, with subjects from the Agriculture Service and local farmers of Siak Regency. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, validated through triangulation of sources, techniques, and time. Applying the theory of innovation diffusion as an analytical framework, the results show that communication transformation in Siak has shifted to digital technology. Extension services have become two-way, interactive, and participatory. Innovation adoption is gradual, supported by interpersonal/digital channels and agents of change. This has had a positive impact on agricultural productivity, fertilizer effectiveness, superior seed selection, and farmers' ability to solve problems independently.
