Abstract

This study aims to examine the form of interpersonal communication between parents and children involved in early marriage in Gumanti Village, Peranap District. Interpersonal communication plays a crucial role in shaping the relationship between parents and children, especially in making significant decisions such as marriage. This research adopts a qualitative approach using phenomenological methods to explore the subjective experiences of the informants. The subjects of the study consist of a teenage girl who married under the age of 18 and her mother. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. The results show that interpersonal communication between parents and children in early marriage cases is influenced by economic limitations, traditional parenting patterns, and local social norms. Communication tends to be one-way, from parents to children, with limited open discussion or mutual understanding. Economic factors and local culture are the primary drivers of early marriage, while ineffective interpersonal communication contributes to the decision-making process. This study recommends improving the quality of communication between parents and children to prevent early marriage and to build better mutual understanding within the family.
