Abstract

Adolescents are the group with the highest internet penetration rate in Indonesia, which makes them more vulnerable to various cyber risks, including cyberbullying. One of the main factors of cyberbullying is low emotion regulation. Adolescents with poor emotion regulation are more prone to commit acts of cyberbullying, while good emotion regulation helps them control themselves and reduce the risk of engaging in cyberbullying. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between emotion regulation and cyberbullying in adolescents at SMKN 6 Pekanbaru. The research sample was 229 adolescents and sampling using probability sampling technique, namely stratified random sampling. The data collection method of cyberbullying is measured based on aspects from Willard (Beran & Li, 2007) consisting of 26 items and emotion regulation is measured based on aspects from Gross (2014) consisting of 19 items. Based on the results of the study, the correlation coefficient between emotion regulation and cyberbullying is (r) = -0, 382 and a significant value of 0.000 <0.05 is known. This proves that there is a negative relationship between emotion regulation and cyberbullying.
