Abstract
The rapid growth of social media in the digital era has made communication easier but has also brought new challenges, such as the emergence of cyberbullying. The impact of cyberbullying on adolescents' mental health has been proven significant, including emotional and social disturbances. One of the factors suspected to play a role in preventing involvement in cyberbullying is communication skills. Therefore, this study aims to determine the relationship between communication skills and involvement in cyberbullying behavior among adolescents. The research subjects consisted of 270 junior high school students in Pekanbaru, aged between 12 and 15 years. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach, using a communication skills scale based on DeVito’s theory (2016) and a cyberbullying behavior scale based on aspects from Willard (2007). The normality test results showed that the data were not normally distributed, thus the Spearman correlation technique was used for data analysis. The results revealed a significant negative relationship between communication skills and involvement in cyberbullying behavior (r = -0.302, p < 0.01). This means that the higher the adolescents' communication skills, the lower their involvement in cyberbullying behavior. This study is expected to serve as a foundation for cyberbullying prevention efforts through the enhancement of communication skills among adolescents.
