Abstract

The college period is a phase of academic and life learning that shapes a student's character. Students, especially those studying away from home, face the challenge of adjusting to new environments and cultures in pursuit of a better education. Adjustment is a crucial process for students, especially those pursuing higher education away from their hometown. The research applied a descriptive quantitative approach using the Student Adaptation to College Questionnaire (SACQ) instrument. Participants consisted of 110 Malay migrant students studying in Pekanbaru. The results revealed that the majority of students fell into the moderate adjustment category (38.2%), followed by low (27.3%), high (23.6%), very high (7.3%), and very low (3.6%). Additional findings showed no significant difference in adjustment levels based on gender, though variation was observed based on student cohorts and regions of origin. These findings indicate that most Malay migrant students in Riau adapt reasonably well to their new environment, although some may still require additional support to enhance their psychological well-being.
