Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between self-regulation and psychological resilience among adolescents from divorced families. Self-regulation is defined as the ability to control emotions, thoughts, and behaviors to achieve long-term goals. Psychological resilience refers to an individual's capacity to adapt positively and recover from stressful or traumatic experiences. The subjects in this study consisted of 70 adolescents aged 12–21 years in Dumai City whose parents are divorced. The research used a quantitative correlational design, with data collected using the Self-Regulation Questionnaire (Carey et al., 2004) and the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (Connor & Davidson, 2003). Data were analyzed using the Spearman correlation test. The results showed a significant positive relationship between self-regulation and psychological resilience (r = 0.376, p < 0.01). This indicates that the higher the self-regulation skills adolescents possess, the higher their level of psychological resilience. These findings support previous research by Aryani et al. (2023) and Alfaruqi & Laksmiwati (2023), who emphasized that self-regulation plays a vital role in strengthening psychological resilience among adolescents in the context of family separation.
