Abstract

Work life balance is an ideal condition in which individuals are able to manage their responsibilities in both work and personal life in a balanced manner. General practitioners and nurses who work in a shift system face unique challenges in maintaining this balance. This study aims to describe the work-life balance of general practitioners and shift nurses at Hospital X in Pekanbaru and to examine differences based on gender, profession, and marital status. This research used a quantitative descriptive method with a survey approach. The sample consisted of 89 respondents selected through total sampling. The instrument used was the work-life balance scale developed based on three aspects by Greenhaus et al. (2003), namely time balance, involvement balance, and satisfaction balance. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The results showed that the majority of respondents had a moderate level of work-life balance (65.2%). The satisfaction balance aspect had the highest average score, indicating that respondents were fairly satisfied with their roles in both work and personal life. Descriptive analysis also showed that female respondents, nurses, and unmarried individuals had higher work-life balance scores, although the differences were not statistically significant. These findings support the notion that work-life balance is more influenced by individual strategies and organizational support rather than demographic factors.
