Abstract

The increasing use of non-BPOM cosmetic products in Pekanbaru reflects a certain level of consumer trust in these products, despite the lack of guaranteed legal safety. This study aims to measure the level of consumer trust in non-BPOM cosmetic products in Pekanbaru, referring to the trust theory proposed by Mayer, Davis, and Schoorman, which includes four dimensions: ability, benevolence, integrity, and predictability. This study employs a quantitative descriptive approach. The sample consisted of 120 individuals selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected using a Likert scale and analyzed descriptively with SPSS. The research instrument was tested using Pearson’s item-total correlation for validity and Cronbach’s Alpha for reliability, both of which showed the instrument to be valid and reliable. The findings indicate that the overall level of consumer trust is categorized as low. Based on these results, it is recommended that producers improve transparency in providing information regarding product content and safety. Furthermore, education and oversight from relevant authorities are essential to enable consumers to make safer and more rational decisions when choosing cosmetic products.
