Abstract

Since the past few decades, especially in the era of regional autonomy and the increase in the status of the Riau Islands region to become a province, development in the construction sector has developed very rapidly. Concrete as a building material has long been used and widely applied by society, because it has advantages compared to other structural materials, namely that it has good strength, is fire resistant, resistant to weather changes, and is relatively easy to work with. The aim of this research is to determine the compressive strength of concrete mixed using coarse aggregate in the form of bauxite gravel at concrete ages of 4 days, 7 days, 14 days, 28 days, 35 and 42 days. To find out whether the compressive strength of the resulting concrete can be classified as a type of structural lightweight concrete or Structural Lightweight Concrete with specific gravity: 1440-1900 and a compressive strength of more than 17.3 MPa at a concrete age of 28 days. Comparing with other lightweight concrete. This research was carried out using quantitative methods, in this case by carrying out laboratory tests. Characteristics of Lightweight Concrete Using Bauxite Gravel as Filler. The ages of the concrete studied were 7 days, 14 days, 21 days, 28 days, 35 days and 42 days. The compressive strength of lightweight concrete with coarse aggregate using bouxite gravel has the highest value at 21 days (17,651 MPa) and the compressive strength value decreases at 28 days (15,056 MPa), indicating that the compressive strength of concrete decreases at 28 days. This is caused by the low quality of bouxite gravel material when compared to normal concrete material (granite). Where the bulk specific gravity value is 2.28 gr/cc, dry specific gravity 2.37 gr/cc, apparent specific gravity 2.49 gr/cc, water absorption 3.64%. Based on research results, the type of lightweight concrete is classified as a type of lightweight concrete with medium strength. Compared with the results of previous research, the trend that occurred was the same as Syarkawi's research in 2019, where at the age of 28 days an anomaly occurred, this was because at ages 7, 14 and 21 it increased along with the age of the concrete. This is different from the research of Yuni Wijiastuti (2019) and Hermanto (2019), where the results of the research show that the compressive strength of concrete increases with the age of the concrete.
