Abstract

The high use of petroleum causes a decrease in production where engineers finally took the initiative to use the EOR method which can be used to increase oil production, one of which is by injecting polymers. There are three types of polymers used in polymer flooding namely synthetic polymers, biopolymers, and natural polymers. The biopolymer complex is divided into starch, dextran, xanthan, chitosan and cellulose. Vannamei shrimp shell chitosan contains 70% chitosan. This study used an experimental method which was divided into stages of drying, crushing, and making polymers which were dissolved in brine in different salinities. The materials used in the test were chitosan from shrimp shells and Xanthan Gum as a comparison. The study used different concentration variations, namely 1000 ppm, 2000 ppm, 3000 ppm with a salinity of 3000 ppm, 9000 ppm, 15,000 ppm. The thermal stability test used a temperature of 60oC and observations were carried out for 7 days. From the results of making chitosan, we obtained a sample of vannamei shrimp shell chitosan in the form of white powder, vannamei shrimp shell chitosan was successful at the compatibility test stage because it did not cause discoloration and there was no precipitate, in the viscosity test the highest viscosity value was 1.29 Cp, shrimp shell chitosan indicated by the appearance of O-H, C-H, C=O, NH, C-H groups, the shear rate on the shrimp shell chitosan biopolymer was a nonNewtonian fluid, the thermal stability test showed that there was no precipitate or discoloration of the vannamei shrimp chitosan indicating heat resistance after testing using different temperatures of 60oC for 7 days.
