Abstract

Paving block quality A is a building material that used as a structural part of construction and a non-structural part of construction for heavy loads. To achieve quality paving block A, knowledge of the right mix composition is required. Stone dust is waste produced in the process of breaking rock by a stone crusher consisting of coarse and gray This research aims to determine the exact composition of the mixture to achieve the quality of hight quality paving block, by using stone dust as a material in a mixture of paving blocks. This research was conducted using compressive strength and water absorption test methods based on SNI 03-0691-1996. The test object is square in shape with dimensions of 10,5 cm x 10,5 cm x 10,5 cm. Tests of compressive strength and water absorption were carried out at 28 days of age. This study used a mixture composition with a percentage of cement 35%, and variations 65% sand and 0% stone dust, 60% sand and 5% stone dust, 55% sand and 10% stone dust, 50% sand and 15% stone dust, 45% sand and 20% stone dust, 40% sand and 25% stone dust, 35% sand and 30% stone dust, and 30% sand and 35% stone dust. The results of the average compressive strength paving blocks respectively are35,07 MPa, 40,97 MPa, 45,20 MPa, 48,37 MPa, 50,94 MPa, 53,29 MPa, 44,60 MPa dan 42,48 MPa. Meanwhile, the results of the average water absorption paving blocks respectively are 0,94%, 1,04%, 1,05%, 1,06%, 1,08%, 1,09%, 1,12%, and 1,39%. The conclusion of the test results shows that the use of stone dust above 25% of the total weight in the paving block mixture results in a decrease in compressive strength. While the results of water absorption show that the greater stone dust variation in paving block mixtures, the greater water absorption in paving blocks.
