Abstract

Peat soil is a type of soil that is not good for civil engineering building construction. This is because peat soil is unstable, has a very high void ratio and water content, so its carrying capacity is low. To improve poor soil conditions, one of the methods that can be used is stabilization. This study aims to determine whether a mixture of quicklime and palm ashes can be used as a stabilizing agent for peat soils with a delay in mixing palm ashes after the peat soil has been stabilized with quicklime for 0 days, 3 days, 7 days, and 28 days. This research was conducted in the laboratory, by testing the physical properties of the soil and soil bearing strength (CBR). The materials used include peat soil, quicklime with the percentage used is 5% and palm ash with the percentage used is 5%, 10% and 15%. The tools used are compaction mold 4", mold CBR 6", and CBR test equipment. The results of research that has been done, peat soil has a specific gravity of 1.533, a moisture content of 337.1%, an optimum moisture content (OMC) of 132%, a maximum dry density (MDD) of 4.61 kN/m3. The CBR value of native peat soil is 0.43%, KAO peat soil is 2.67%, the highest CBR value is in the 5% quicklime mixture of 7.5%, the highest CBR value is the addition of 5% palm ash by 7%, the highest CBR value was the addition of 10% palm ash of 6.87%, the highest CBR value was the addition of 15% palm ash of 6.36%. From the results of this study the use of quicklime and palm ash was very influential in increasing the density and CBR value of peat soils. As the percentage of oil palm ash content increases, the CBR value of peat soil decreases which is not too significant.
