Abstract

Clay is one of the worst subgrade soils for construction work. Clay is very susceptible to changes in moisture content and often experiences instability in supporting the load above it and has a large potential for expansion (Swelling). Therefore, an effort was made to improve the clay soil using soil stabilization method using a mixture of palm fiber ash and cement. The mixture of palm fiber ash used was 10%, 15%, and 20% variations and 7.5% cement to the dry weight of the original soil. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of using a mixture of palm fiber ash and cement as a clay stabilization mixture on the CBR value and its development potential. The research tested the physical properties of the original soil and also the mechanical properties of the original soil and the soil that has been mixed with palm fiber ash and cement. CBR testing was carried out with 2 processes of preserving test objects, namely CBR without soaking (Unsoaked) for 0 days and 7 days and CBR soaked (Soaked) for 4 days. From the results of the research conducted, the MDD value of 1.468 g and OMC of 22% were obtained. The CBR value without soaking the original soil increased from 4,61% to 5,.45% at 7 days of curing. The highest CBR value was obtained in the mixture of 10% palm fiber ash and 7.5% cement at 20.30% at 0 days of curing. The highest CBR value was obtained in a mixture of 10% palm fiber ash and 7.5% cement at 57.34% at 7 days of curing. The soaking CBR value tended to increase from 2.21% to 31.02% in the variation of 20% palm fiber ash and 7.5% cement mixture. The swelling potential value tends to decrease from 0.312% to 0.062%
