Abstract

Paving block is a composition of building materials made from a mixture of Portland cement, water, and aggregate in the form of sand with or without other additives that will not reduce the quality of the paving itself (SNI-03-0691-1996). In order to obtain a good quality paving block, then plan the manufacture of paving blocks with the addition of addictive materials (waterglass) replacing some of the water in the manufacture of paving because in waterglass there is a chemical composition contained therein including SiO2, Na2O, H2O as a binder in concrete. In this study, an experimental method was used which refers to SNI-03-0691-1996 Concrete Brick (Paving Block). This research was conducted compressive strength test at the age of 28 days. The test objects that will be made are 24 samples with the addition of Waterglass variations of 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% replacement of water. This study aims to determine the effect of using Waterglass on the classification of the quality of paving blocks produced. The resulting quality of the mixture of 0%, 2%, 4%, 6%, 8% and 10% waterglass. At 0% waterglass mixing, the compressive strength result was 203.48 kg/cm². However, it increased at 2% and 4% variations, namely 215.04 kg/cm² and 255.44 kg/cm² (Quality B) and decreased at 6%, 8%, 10% variations of 153.76 kg/cm² (Quality C), 105.02 kg/cm² (Quality D), and 90.18 kg/cm (does not meet the criteria of SNI 03-0691-1996). It can be concluded that waterglass can be used as a mixture of paving blocks up to a percentage of 4% (Quality B) using the same material and at a maintenance age of 28 days.
