Abstract
Soil is defined as a material consisting of aggregates or grains of solid minerals which are not cemented or chemically bonded to one another and of decayed organic matter accompanied by liquid and gaseous substances which fill the empty spaces between the solid particles. In general, the soil consists of coarsegrained soil (gravel and sand). Clay soil has a large porosity value but is not permeable because the voids are very small. Clay soil itself consists of clay mineral particles which are very active and easily absorb water. Clay soil with high plasticity, large cohesiveness results in relatively large swelling and shrinkage. In this study utilizing local material in the form of sea sand as a stabilizing agent that is dry or in conditions of 0% water or has been dried in the sun first. The sea sand used as a mixed material for this free compressive strength test sample is sea sand which is located on the coast of Gloria Beach, Karimun District, Karimun Regency, Riau Islands. The clay soil used is clay taken at the ring road location which is ± 15 meters from the sea sand collection location. Therefore, to find out the problems that occur, the researcher tested the soil samples From the results of the analysis it was found that the UCS value increased with increasing sea sand. This happens because sea sand, water, and soil all bind strongly at room temperature. Based on the results of the UCS test, the maximum qu value of 0.96 kg/cm2 is achieved at a percentage of 25% and 14 days of curing time. When compared with the qu value before stabilization which was only 0.86 kg/cm2, the more sea sand combinations were added, the soil quality value increased. a denser compaction rate during mixing results in a tighter bond between the soil and sea sand, which reduces soil voids and increases the value of qu, which is greater for each mix.
