Abstract

Paving block is a composition of building materials made from a mixture of Portland cement, water, and aggregate in the form of sand with or without other additives that will not reduce the quality of the brick itself (SNI-03-0691-1996). This research uses a mixture of Polyester Resin as a partial substitute for sand. The method used in this research is experimental which refers to SNI-03-0691-1996 Concrete Brick (Paving Block). In this study, Polyester Resin was used as a substitute for sand with a composition variation of 0%, 7%, 8%, 9%, 10 and 11%. This study aims to determine the effect of the use of Polyster Resin on the classification of paving block quality produced. There is a decrease in the compressive strength of paving blocks between paving blocks of plan quality (0% polyester resin) with paving blocks that use variations in the composition of adding 7%, 8%, 9%, 10%, and 11% polyester resin. Where the compressive strength of paving blocks without resin mixture gets a compressive strength of 183.44 kg / cm² while paving blocks with 7% resin mixture only get a compressive strength of 18.50 kg / cm², 8% variation gets a compressive strength of 21.27 kg / cm², 9% variation of 23.12 kg / cm², 10% of 27.13 kg / cm², and 11% get a compressive strength of 27.75 kg / cm². The use of polyester resin as an additive to the manufacture of paving blocks is not suitable for use in paving blocks because it results in a decrease in the compressive strength of the compressive strength of the paving block plan.
