Abstract

Soil is a material composed of aggregates (granules) of solid minerals that are not cemented (chemically bound) to each other and from decayed organic matter (solid particles) accompanied by liquid and gas that fills the empty spaces. between the solid particles. The clay soil used was taken in the Tenayan Raya sub-district, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province because that area will be used as a development center, so the author tries to stabilize the clay soil. Soil stabilization can be done by several methods, one of which is mechanical stabilization by adjusting the gradation of the soil grains and then carrying out the compaction process or by adding certain added materials so that the soil meets the requirements of building construction. In this study soil stabilization was carried out by adding a mixture of coconut shell charcoal powder and carbide waste. The test results for water content obtained an average moisture content of 10.34%, soil specific gravity test obtained an average specific gravity of 2.60%, liquid limit test obtained 40.54%, plastic limit test obtained average water content 18.91%. The results of testing and sieving analysis, using the AASHTO classification system, the soil used in this study is included in group A-6 with moderate to poor clay soil types. Meanwhile, based on the soil classification system using the USCS method, the soil used in this study was included in the OL soil group with organic silt soil types and organic silt clay with low plasticity (IP 21.63%). CBR test curing 0 days, original soil CBR value is 5.58%, 7 days curing obtained original soil CBR value of 9.21%, while in 4 days immersion obtained native soil CBR value of 2.34%. The results of the CBR research with the addition of coconut shell charcoal powder and carbide waste tended to increase. The maximum CBR value for curing is 31.39%, which occurs when testing soil + 5% carbide waste which is aged for 7 days. In the 4-day immersion condition, the maximum CBR of 30.14% occurred in the Original Soil + 5% test. Carbide waste was soaked for 4 days.
